"I think one of the BEST books I
purchased and STILL use when I was working on my PP was Rod Machado's
Private Pilot Handbook. A large book that does more than just give
answers to questions... it EXPLAINS WHY things are the way they are in
a way that is easy to understand. I learned lots of things in that book
that I had not read ANYWHERE else despite years of reading aviation literature...
for example... why should you turn the carb heat off after landing? And
its not because the checklist says so. WHY should you? This book was the
only place I found the answer, and it was because it really explained the
aircraft systems well. It does the same with every other aspect... weather,
navigation, regulations, etc."
